Pleasant Memories

1 Thessalonians 3: v. 6 - 8

During the past few days when things have been a bit quieter I have been sorting out old photographs. There must be hundreds that we've gathered over the years as a family. Most of them have very pleasant memories. Those taken of our children at different stages in their life - those of different members of our respective families - those great holidays together with our friends. All pleasant memories.

However there was one I came across which took me back a few years. It was of our daughter, Pauline, when she was only three years old singing with me at one of our Salvation Army Hostels in Glasgow. Why it's such a pleasant memory is because even at that young age Pauline had a natural alto voice. The song we sang together was entitled 'Fill my cup Lord' and although Pauline couldn't read the words, nor understand the music, she had memorised the words of the chorus and when I had sung the verse she would join in at the chorus. Needless to say the novelty wore off as she got older and mum's singing wasn't good enough to duet with!

Through that pleasant memory I thought of those words we sung and prayed that my cup would be overflowing with the love of God that others would receive that love through me.

This can be your desire; your prayer also as you start off another year. A year that, I trust, will be one where God's love will be overflowing in your life.

Make the words of the chorus your prayer:-

Fill my cup, Lord, Fill it up, Lord,
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul,
Bread of Heaven feed me till I want no more,
Fill my cup,
Fill it up, and make me whole.

May God richly bless you.
